LEVAQUIN
(levofloxacin)
This is
one of the best antibiotics that I have seen since
Zithromax and Biaxin. It seems to be very effective with
a once-a-day dosing which is very convenient for
patients.
It
has been approved for treatment of community-acquired
pneumonia, bronchitis, sinusitis, urinary tract
infection, and recently for skin infections.
I
have not seen side-effects from this antibiotic except
for occasional nausea and the effectiveness of this drug
is remarkable.
Overall,
I believe this antibiotic should do as well as Zithromax
and Biaxin. I seem to use it even more than Augmentin
and it seems to be just as effective.
This
drug has not been studied in those under the age of 18,
in pregnant and nursing women. This drug should be used
with caution in older patients or those with kidney
problems as it clears thru kidneys. This drug should not
be taken by those who are allergic to quinolone
antibiotics such as Cipro. Patients with Seizure history
should use diuscuss use of this drug with their doctors.
As
with any antibiotic, Levaquin should be prescribed
properly as to avoid both side-effects and emergence of
bacterial resistance. Also,
as with other antibiotics, there is a long list of
possible side-effects both before and after marketing
this drug. You can find these infrormation here at
